Locked Down in Kenya during COVID
Acts of kindness and generosity are happening on a daily basis in Nairobi. CES Kenya Director Rev Livingstone Nyanje is also an ordained minister in the ACK. He and his wife Janet Isigi visit needy families to distribute food stuff to church members and others in the community. In his words:
Sometimes you just hold tears back when you hear the stories of people and how they are suffering. We visited two families and gave them some maize, flour and sugar. That was an immense privilege for us.
People are still locked up and can't travel out of Nairobi easily. Those fortunate enough to get clearance to travel up country to their home will meet people who are very hostile. They think anyone coming from Nairobi has the virus, so the chiefs have been saying, “go back to where you came from.” There's a lot of fear in people around the country.
Many organisations are scaling down their employees and some are forced to take unpaid leave. People have opted not to attend a hospital, instead staying indoors for fear of the Covid19 pandemic. Rev Nyanje writes:
Please let those in Canada who have provided us with funds know that we are truly grateful. We are helping as many as we can during these dark days. We live in hope - things will get better.
