Mailbag: our students write to us!

Here are messages of appreciation and thanks we’ve received from our students, thanking donors for their support in making a brighter future available to them.

Zablon is an enthusiastic volleyball player. Here he is (middle) with some of his friends at a tournament at Kenyatta University.

Zablon Wanjala, teacher

Zablon Wanjala is a CES beneficiary who, as a result of support by CES, was able to graduate from university and get a position as a teacher. You can hear Zablon’s story in his own words, as one of the three Alumni I had the honour of interviewing during my 2022 visit to Kenya. Here’s an update from Zablon; – Carl Friesen, CES Canada Chair.

Dear Mike!  Kenya has become very harsh for its children, it is not the same as it used to be some years back. The economic standard now itself is heartbreaking with daily increases in the price of commodities. The introduction of tax hikes makes those from humble background again to be in state of limbo.

The good thing is that most of us are used to it though one of the most worries is that job opportunities are a problem now in Kenya. Most of the graduates are victims, many also now are moving around the streets to get something to sustain themselves.

My mum and siblings struggle as I try to help. For Kenyans, the hope of getting an opportunity to work in Kenya now has diminished; and a KCSE paper is useless.

Last year I had a conversation with a good friend of mine @carlfriesen, that should he find an opportunity in Canada for casual work where I could be studying some short course at the same time as working, that might be a good option for me.

I hope you will forward this message to him. CES Canada and CES Kenya has played a major role in my life. I need to return something to them. I wish to reach out and lift up the needy, to help those who are hopeless.

It is just a dream being with Mama Linda and shaking her ✋. God bless you Mike and God bless your family and CES Canada at large.
